Pain in the behind...

Well, we have had more than our fare share of firsts this weekend. After a fabulous day of 4th of July firsts, we (Billy) spent the day in the ER with Gavin...and it was his first time there. He is fine and sleeping now, but I will give you a little back ground on how he got there. Early in the week, Gavin started complaining about a sore/bite on his behind. I checked it out and it looked like a fire ant bite so I put some anti-itch cream on it and went on. As the days pasted, Gavin became more and more sensitive in that area and it was definitely growing. Of course, when I really started getting concerned it was the holiday so we could not take him to the doctor. Billy and I watched it all day Friday and decided if it was not any better by Saturday that we needed to take him to the ER. Saturday morning it was the size of a golf ball and so sore that he could not sit. He was also walking around like he needed a cane and he is only 4. :) Anyway, we decided to take him in. I stayed with the babies and Billy went. I knew that I could not handle what they might have to do when they got there along with the fact that he would have to be held down in agony. Thank God for Billy! When he got there, the doctor looked at it and said that it was abscessed and infected and had to be drained. YUCK....I know! As you can imagine, Gavin was having no part of that. He had to be sedated so they could do the procedure. They gave him something to fall asleep and also something to numb the area. However, you can not completely numb an infection so it was still pretty painful for Gavin....and Billy who had to witness the process. He has some pain medication and antiobotics and we go back on Monday to recheck it. They are also sending off a sample so we can find out exactly what kind of infection it was. Anyway, say a little prayer for our little one tonight. He was a trooper and was very brave in the process. We just had to change the dressing on it and Billy showed it to Gavin. I almost passed out at the site of blood and Gavin was extremely proud of himself. I guess he earned that! :)

So sorry to hear about Gavin's trip to the ER! Hopefully he's feeling much better now... the whole scenario does bring new meaning to a pain in the behind though!
